# Video Won the Web. Most Sites Haven't Noticed Yet.

In France's Alexa top 50, half the sites put video first. 4G removed the last excuse. If your site doesn't lead with video, you're already behind.

In France, in the websites ranking of [alexa.com/topsites](http://alexa.com/topsites), video is the core feature of:

- 20% of the top 10
- 40% of the top 20
- 46.7% of the top 30
- 52.5% of the top 40
- 50% of the top 50

The trend is clear and it is not flattening.

In the attention economy, everyone competes for where we put our eyes. Video has become the most effective tool to hold that attention. Thanks to the development of 4G broadband, low bandwidth is no longer a real barrier. The last technical excuse is gone.

The sites that still treat video as optional are not choosing a different format. They are choosing to compete on worse terms.

I predict that in 10 years, 90% of the top 50 websites will have video as a core feature. Not embedded. Not linked. Core.

**Actionable insight:** Audit your site's homepage: if video is not the first thing a visitor sees and interacts with, plan when you will add it — not whether.

## Myth vs reality

**Myth:** Video is a nice-to-have enhancement for websites

**Reality:** In France's top 50 Alexa sites, video is the core feature for half of them — not a supplement but the main reason to visit
